The core function of the Engineering Services department is to plan, design, develop and implement appropriate Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) facilities in accordance with global ICAO CNS/ATM Plan, AFI Air Navigation Plan and domestic requirements.
The department ensures effective planning, implementation and maintenance of Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and auxiliary systems to achieve and sustain 98% equipment availability and 99% equipment serviceability while assuring reliability and integrity as per ICAO requirements.
The following are some of the systems installed and maintained by the department in various parts across the country:
- Communication systems - VHF, HF, AFTN/AMHS, ATIS, Voice Recorders, VCCS, CPDLC, AIDPS and domestic VSAT.
- Navigation systems provided are VOR, DME, VDF and NDB.
- Surveillance systems, the systems provided are Radar (both primary and secondary), SMR, ADS-C, FDPS and RDPS.
- Auxiliary systems provided are UPS, generators, air conditioners, solar and AVR among others.
The systems are installed in dual configuration to ensure availability of the equipment to the users at all times.
